Collection: Karlyn Marshall
Scottish artist Karlyn Marshall, has been painting and exhibiting since the completion of an NC in Art and Design at Anniesland College in 2012, which reignited a long-suppressed love of expression through paint. She completed a BA(HONS) in Contemporary Art Practice in 2017 at City of Glasgow College.
Painting from a range of subject matters, Karlyn is inspired by the world around her. Her love of the Scottish scenery and time spent reflecting on life on a beach or a walk in the woods inspires her modern Scottish artwork which uses oils with a combination of brush work and thick, impasto palette-knife marks.
Taking many photographs in her time outdoors, Karlyn then takes to the studio to create an image - sometimes reminiscent of the specific place and sometimes simply creating an impression or mood of the place or scene.
Sketches from life-drawing or observations of city life in Paris or Glasgow are transformed into a painted image.
Most recently, Karlyn has created a series of paintings from time spent in the Scottish Hebridean islands of Tiree and Uist with their fascinating and ever-changing vistas.
Karlyn’s work is becoming increasingly well-known through exhibiting locally as well as private commission pieces.
